Do not give up

Saturday, July 17th, 2010

Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up. So, do not give up.

Disunity, Division – What a crash

Monday, December 28th, 2009

Just sitting here and thinking about the consequences of disunity and division. These produce secrecy, lies, hidden agendas, and a constant source of disruptions in our lives. There seems to be an endless amount of problems coming one after the other.

Somehow every problem ends up in one lap with the same blame.
We all should expect to have consequences for our actions but somehow all blame and responsibility seem to always point in the same direction. At what point will accountability be in the right place?

Getting tired of all the blame, getting tired of the pokerface lies, getting tired of a constant diet of hiding and sneaking of everyone and the constant excuse of it being “your fault”.

hmmmmm I wonder what next? There is always an excuse for everybody’s actions and it seems to be pointing here again.
When will this stop?

Probably a line is needed to be drawn and just move forward.
Easily said but it is probably the only way.

Affirmative Action or Reversed Discrimination

Friday, July 1st, 2005

The purpose of Affirmative Action I believe, was supposedly to level the playing field for minorities entering Colleges and Universities after not doing as well as others in Elementary through High School, or in many cases, being discriminated against by the admissions departments of Colleges and Universities. While well intended by some, I believe that for minorities it will seem like a great opportunity and protection from the racists, however, for the others it feels like Reverse Discrimination.

We all know that over the years minorities and especially blacks (and how about those native Americans), have been discriminated against in various ways, including within the educational system, but does guaranteeing a place in college help any of them, if after getting a place in college they then fail and drop out?

Is getting a place in college the problem or isn’t the fact that these students are not being taught equally, not being treated equally and not given the same opportunities in Elementary, Middle and High Schools the real problem? When at a local Elementary school in Seminole County, a teacher, Ms. Downs says that it isn’t her responsibility to motivate a little black boy when he does not show as much interest in her class and at the same time she is hugging and encouraging the little white kids to do better when they are being disruptive and behaving much worse than the little black one, does that help the black kid?
When a teacher in Sanford Middle School, Ms. Morris brings a dog to school and the dog plays with all the other kids in the class, who just happen to be white and runs and runs from the black kid, then the teacher tells that black student that her dog is not accustomed to dark colors, does that help that black kid or does that kid feel embarrassed and possibly withdraw in her class?
Or when a teacher at Seminole High School, Mr. Pilch, does not respond to communication from parents, hides semester test grades from a black student and his parents so as not to bring up the student’s grade by a letter, discriminates against the black students during class time, speaks of the great behavior and attitude of a student while in meetings with among other people, the principal and the parent but a few days later writes everything contrary to these statements on the student’s report card, (where it really matters), does this help that child or is this teacher creating a future Affirmative Action Beneficiary with his lies, deception and racist behavior?
When helpful information is withheld from minority students, information about Advanced Placement Classes and anything else that would help to advance the minority student, that behavior will create a disadvantage for the minority student and as a result he or she will more likely need the benefits of Affirmative Action. I have first hand experience of that behavior from another High School and had it not been for vigorous pursuit for my child’s best opportunities, we would have been left in the dark and probably would have needed the benefits of Affirmative Action, but thank God, she has been successful on her own merit.
To give credit where credit is due, we are fortunate to currently have a school Counselor for our youngest child who gives us all the possible opportunities and makes our child realize that every possibility is open to him. It is largely due to this counselor’s sense of fairness and equality, and my firm belief that the current principal’s goal is to change the current perception, that I have kept my son at this high school.

Without constant monitoring by those student’s parents and giving constant encouragement and motivation in order to offset the negative impact of people that are tearing them down instead of lifting them up, those children would definitely need Affirmative Action to get into college. As a matter of fact they will need Affirmative Action to get anywhere in life due to constant oppression and discrimination throughout their childhood school days.
In plain talk, the schools will have contributed to creating some people who will always need special passes to get anywhere in life and in some cases they have created a menace and liability to society.

The whole Affirmative Action policy should be eliminated altogether and laws passed and enforced with severe penalties so that any teacher or administrator found to be discriminating against a student whether Caucasian or minority, should be punished according to those severe laws. Putting unprepared, downtrodden and unmotivated students into college just because there is a quota to make, helps nobody at all, but preparing a student, treating them like any other student, encouraging and motivating them in the lower schools, would give them the opportunity to compete on a level playing field for each college space without any external assistance or preferential treatment.

If I was a gambler I would bet my last dollar that racism that exists in schools today would be dramatically reduced and each child would get a better opportunity to succeed if Affirmative Action was eliminated and the laws that should be protecting our society from discrimination enforced.

Natalee is missing, who is responsible?

Sunday, June 26th, 2005

I can just imagine the difficult time Natalie’ parents are having as they try to find their daughter. Whenever I could not find any of my kids even for a few minutes, it was always a very stressful few minutes and to be honest, scary too. Even when I am unable to locate my adult children it causes the same feelings even though they are older and more responsible and usually do a great job of taking care of themselves.

Because of that, I have taken every precaution to minimize the possibilities of anything like that happening, so if it should happen, then I know that I did my best to prevent it. As a society, I believe we should be taking these same steps to ensure the safety of our children and then, so that we would have done our very best to protect our kids.

I have a few thoughts going over in my mind, and I wonder if anyone else is having similar thoughts?
If we allow our kids (and yes 18 year old kids) to go to Aruba to party, then shouldn’t we expect them to party?
If we allow our kids to go especially to a foreign country for the purpose of partying, and if as a result of partying (which includes drinking, the possibility of drugs and sex) and they get into trouble, shouldn’t the parents share in the responsibility?
If we allow our kids to be taken care of (chaperoned) by someone else instead of by us, shouldn’t that chaperone have some responsibility for the activities of these kids if we specified the responsibilities of the chaperones and the kids? If the answer is no, then why don’t we just send off the kids on their own?
If our kids behave inappropriately when out at a party, like drinking and getting drunk, possibly doing drugs, and engaging in sexual activity, shouldn’t the parent’s be held responsible for the way they brought up the kids?
Those kinds of behavior doesn’t just come up while the kids were out, but had to be a factor (in most cases), while at home and was overlooked or even encouraged by the parents.

At this time we should be just looking for Natalie and NOT pointing a finger and I really believe that is what should be happening, therefore, we should not be pointing a finger at the parents, JUST YET, but neither should we be accusing the security guards before knowing the evidence, or for that matter the three friends that are being held. Remember, you are innocent until proven guilty, right? When there is evidence that shows guilt then at that time you can point a finger, but gut feelings and speculation should be kept to yourself.

Strange enough, the Arabian kid and Natalie have similar academic performances and popularity in their respective communities, but Natalie’s aunt suggests that the prominent father of the kid that is in custody should have had regular contact every couple hours with his son when he was out late in order to be sure that he was behaving appropriately, but she forgot that Natalie was even further away, and if they were monitoring her as they think the father should do, wouldn’t that let them know the whereabouts of Natalie right now?

We should not be telling the Arabian authorities how to do their investigation or try to impose our rules on them as though we have the “so perfect” laws and methods of policing here in the USA. When news reporter and so-called legal analysts desires that when an accuser is charged, that the accuser or accusers be sent to the USA to be tried, I have to wonder if these reporters or analysts think that only one safe and fair law exists and that is the Laws of the USA.

When we can have Mark Furman as some analyst or legal expert, after he was the one to cause O. J. Simpson to be free today, should he be advising any detective on how to investigate any case?

While our laws and judicial system are great, it is not perfect just like every other country’s laws, so let the Arabian Justice System run its course and not try to run it for them.

As a final thought, 24/7 coverage in all news media is the least we can do to draw attention to this situation in order to give the best opportunity for Natalie to get home safely, and so it was with the runaway bride, and also with the little scout, but are there any Hispanics, Blacks, Asians, Indians etc. that are missing?
Where is the media coverage for these groups of people or are these missing people not as important, or is the only news that can be made for them is when they are going to jail, in jail or leaving jail?

Regardless of your race, have you ever wondered if only white folks get lost and missing?
It is either that the other races are much smarter and protective that they keep safe, or could it be the powers that be only care about finding the white folks…something to think about huh!
